Pilgrimage for the Jubilee Year of Mercy

Rome, Assisi, and the Shrines of Italy

One of the ways in which we are invited to celebrate the Jubilee Year of Mercy is through the experience of pilgrimage. “The practice of pilgrimage has a special place in the Holy Year, because it represents the journey each of us makes in this life. Life itself is a pilgrimage, and we are all pilgrims travelling along the road, making our way to a desired destination. Similarly, to reach the Holy Door – in Rome, or in any other place in the world – everyone, each according to their ability, will have to make a pilgrimage. This is a sign that mercy is also a goal to reach, and that it requires dedication and sacrifice. May pilgrimage be an impetus to conversion: by crossing the threshold of the Holy Door, we will find the strength to embrace God’s mercy and dedicate ourselves to being merciful with others as the Father has been with us.” (Pope Francis, Misericordiae Vultus #14)

This year, from October 4-14, 2016, Fr. Raymond Lafontaine, Pastor of St. Monica’s Parish, will be leading a Jubilee Year pilgrimage to Rome and the Shrines of Italy. This pilgrimage will include a papal audience in St. Peter’s Square, guided tours of Rome’s four major basilicas and the Vatican Museums, and destinations including Assisi, Florence, Loreto, San Giovanni Rotondo, Monte Sant’Angelo, Pompeii, and Monte Cassino. If you want to learn more about this unique opportunity, please join us for a special travel presentation to be held at St. Monica’s Parish Hall (6405 Terrebonne) on Tuesday, March 1st at 7:00 p.m. For more information, or to register for the presentation, please contact Antoinette Mercurio from Caleche Travel: (514) 266-3134 or nan@caleche.net.
