Journey to Resurrection - We are Called

Fr. Lloyd Baugh SJ - February 18, 2021

It is almost inconceivable that it has been nearly one year since we the faith community of St. Monica’s have gathered together to worship. We have been living in isolation which can sometimes cause desolation and discouragement.

Hopefully, this season of Lent, even though we are still physically separated, will bring us to spiritual community, as we commit to walk this Journey to Resurrection together in faith. If we are consciously aware, we can encounter each other in spirit.

We can take comfort in the words based on 1 Corinthians: “Though we are many throughout the earth, we are one body in this one Lord.”  In unity, we can attain the gift of Consolation that will sustain us on this Journey to Resurrection.

Embark on this Lenten Journey to Resurrection with this first step. Each day awake with the mantra “We Are Called.” Let these next forty days afford us the opportunity to discern our individual calling and as each of us recognizes that calling, so grows the strength of our faith community.

Ever since Abraham became aware of the one true God, God has been calling His people. Be open to the idea of being called, we are His chosen ones.

Often we are deaf to the call, but fortunately, God has infinite patience, He does not give up on us, He continues to call until we hear Him and answer: “Here I Am Lord.”

The graces we receive from saying “Yes I am called” will be abundant.

Reflections

1Kings 3:10

Then the Lord came and stood there calling as the other times, “Samuel, Samuel.” Then Samuel said, “Speak for your servant is listening.”

Hebrews 3:1a

Therefore holy brothers and sisters who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus.

1 Peter 2: 9

You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possessions; that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of the darkness into His wonderful light.
