The first film in the Decalogue series deals with the “God question” in a most dramatic, challenging and effective way, in the moral dynamic among three people. A popular university professor, a Catholic become agnostic, introduces his beloved little son to the mysteries of the personal computer, which he believes to be infallible. The boy has his own small computer and uses it well, but he still recognizes and questions other mysteries, which cannot be explained by computers. The boy’s aunt and surrogate mother, an intelligent Catholic, answers the boy’s queries about God in a most insightful way. When unspeakable tragedy hits the family, the father’s faith in human intelligence is terribly shaken. In utter darkness and despair, to whom can he turn?
